MILWAUKEE – The WLC Warriors jumped out to a 9-0 lead through three innings and coasted past Maranatha Baptist Bible College 14-3 in game two of a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Neumann Family Field. Similar to the first game, WLC pounded out 11 hits over its first three frames to spot itself a 9-0 lead, which consisted of a six-run third inning. Maranatha reached the scoring column in the fourth with a single tally, before the Warriors got the run back in their half of the fifth. Ahead 10-3 entering the seventh, WLC scored four runs and held MBBC in the bottom half to win the contest after seven complete due to run rule. Senior Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther Preparatory) was 4-for-6 with three runs scored for the Warriors. Juniors Ryan Pollesch (Markesan, Wis./Markesan), Justin Barkhurst (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran), Brad Marshall (Cudahy, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and freshman Tyler Schoen (Marion, Wis./Marion) each recorded three hits. Pollesch, Schoen and senior Jake Thorsteins (Round Lake Beach, Ill./Shoreland Lutheran) tallied three RBIs apiece. WLC ran wild on the MBBC battery, swiping 14 bases in the contest. In a fitting fashion, Thorsteins earned his first win (1-6) on the mound in the team's final game of the season. He pitched 5.0 innings and gave up three runs on eight hits. Thorsteins fanned six and walked three batters. Senior John Lynch (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia) tossed the final 2.0 scoreless innings in relief. Lance Saxon was 2-for-3 in the game for the Crusaders (4-23, 0-22 NAC). Six other players also registered a hit. Joel Borchardt gave up nine runs, seven earned, on 13 hits in 4.0 innings to take the loss (1-5). Wisconsin Lutheran wraps up its 2010 season with an overall record of 11-26, including a mark of 7-15 in the NAC. The seven conference victories are the most since 2003 (9). |
