WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's cross country team competed Saturday at eight-team University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Invitational. Freshman Sarah Frelich (Maribel, Wis./Denmark) placed ninth overall to lead the Warriors in their first 6K race of the season.

In her first collegiate 6K race, Frelich finished the course on the UW-W campus in a time of 25:41 for ninth place among 75 competitors who competed in the event. Sophomore Alyssa Schumacher (Johnson Creek, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) wasn't far behind her freshman teammate, placing 13th with a time of 26:00. Senior Amy Martin (Algoma, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) rounded out the Warriors competitors with her finishing time of 29:03 for 55th place.

WLC did not compile a team score at the event. The University of Wisconsin-Platteville won the event with 31 points. The Pioneers placed four of their runners within the top 10. UW-P's Ann Tank was the race winner with a top 6K time of 23:57.

Wisconsin Lutheran has next weekend off before it hosts the Warrior Invitational Saturday, October 1 at Greenfield Park in West Allis, Wis. The women's 6K race is scheduled for 11 a.m.
