Shelby Spaciel is in her first year as Assistant Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator at Wisconsin Lutheran College. Spaciel also serves as head men's and women's track & field coach for the Warriors, a position she has held for the past three years.
In three seasons as head coach, Spaciel has coached the first two female student-athletes who qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in program history. Jenny Biebert finished 20th in the heptathlon at the 2015 NCAA Championships, while Amanda Frier placed 18th in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Championships in 2016.
Spaciel has coached the Warriors to 17 individual conference titles between both the NACC indoor and outdoor championships. Chase Robles and Jacob Jodat (twice) have been recipients of the Track Athlete of the Meet award.
Prior to coming to WLC, Spaciel had an outstanding track & field career at UW-Milwaukee. She was a six-time Horizon League champion, winning the heptathlon (2011, 2012, 2013), pentathlon (2012, 2013), and javelin (2013). Spaciel also set school records in all three events and established Horizon League Championship records in the heptathlon and pentathlon. She was named the Horizon League's Outstanding Field Performer for the 2013 outdoor season.
In addition to her standout performance as an athlete, Spaciel also excelled in the classroom as she was named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team and the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll as a senior.
Spaciel graduated from UW-Milwaukee in 2013 with degrees in environmental science and biology. She is a graduate of Warterford Union High School where she was a four-time All-Lakeshore Conference selection. Spaciel set school records in the 100m and 300m hurdles and the long jump. She was a WIAA state qualifier all four years of high school.
Spaciel earned a Master of Arts degree in leadership and innovation from WLC in 2017. She and her husband, Jake, and son, Sawyer, reside in New Berlin.
