MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College junior football player JD Leisemann (Fall River, Wis./Fall River) has earned All-Region honors from D3football.com, the online publication announced on Monday. Leisemann is the fourth Warriors football player to earn All-Region honors since 2013.
Leisemann, who was one of four players from the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference to receive All-North Region recognition, landed a spot on the 11-member Third Team Defense.
The teams, selected in balloting by North Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 211 nominations by Division III member schools. Players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for D3football.com All-America honors, which will be announced Dec. 16, during D3football.com's pregame coverage of Stagg Bowl XLIV.
Leisemann, who was named the NACC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-NACC, tied for the league lead with 11 sacks, a new single-season school and conference record. He also tied with three other players, including teammate Logan Troutman, for 13th nationally in sacks. The junior defensive lineman tallied 48 tackles -- 32 solo and 16 tackles for loss -- and recovered a pair of fumbles.
Wisconsin Lutheran finished its 2016 season with a 5-5 overall record and tied for second in the NACC with a 4-2 mark. After a tough 0-4 start, the Warriors rallied to win five of their final six games to finish with at least a .500 overall record for the seventh time in the last eight years.
