HAVEN, Wis. - Jake Gaudynski (New Berlin, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) fired a two-day 156 to lead the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's golf team to third place after the first two rounds of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference championship Monday at Whistling Straits Irish Course.
Gaudynski carded the Warriors' lowest total through the first two rounds of the championship, tying for fifth with a 156 (78-78) in the 50-player field. Pete Kaufmann (Davenport, Iowa/Central) sits just one shot behind Gaudynski in seventh with a 157 (79-78).
Jacob Mortell (Eden Prairie, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) is tied for 22nd after his two-day 166 (82-84). Danny Frawley (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) turned in a 171 (85-86), and Sean Esenberg (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) closed out the WLC lineup with a 176 (89-87).
WLC is tied with Lakeland for third in the 10-team field after its two-round 650 (324-326). Following an opening-round 312, Edgewood pulled away from the field with a 299 Monday for a 28-shot lead over runner-up MSOE. The Eagles' Patrick Cahill and Kenny Rucker share the lead with a 148 (76-72).
Rounds one and two of the NACC Championship mark the end of the fall season for the Warriors. They will resume their season in the spring, including competition in the final rounds of the conference championship April 21-22 at Stonebridge Country Club in Aurora, Ill.
