JANESVILLE, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's golf team opened its 2014 fall season with a fifth-place finish at the Culver's-Edgewood Fall Invite which concluded Saturday at Glen Erin Golf Club.
Pete Kaufmann (Davenport, Iowa/Central) tied for 15th overall in the 69-player field after shooting a two-round 151 (74-77).
Sean Esenberg (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) finished one shot in front of teammate Tyler Wood (Eagan, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) as the duo carded two-day totals of 153 and 154, respectively. Jake Gaudynski (New Berlin, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) turned in a 157 for the tournament, and Danny Frawley (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) rounded out the Warriors' scoring with a 169.
Individually for WLC, Jacob Mortell (Eden Prairie, Minn./St.Croix Lutheran) tied Kaufmann for 15th overall with a 151. Mortell carded the Warriors' lowest round of the tournament, a 72 in Friday's opening round. Garrett Ralston (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) matched Esenberg with identical rounds of 78 and 75 for a 153. The final individual score for WLC came from Brett Morris (Burlington, Wis./Catholic Central), who totaled a two-day 164.
The Warriors combined for a team score of 615 (310-305) for fifth in the 10-team field. Edgewood put together identical rounds of 297 to finish with a 594 and held off UW-Stout by one stroke to win the tournament. St. Olaf's Charlie Johnson earned medalist honors after shooting a tournament-low 140 (72-68).
Wisconsin Lutheran returns to the links next Friday and Saturday for the Tim Kopka Memorial Tournament at Randall Oaks Golf Club in West Dundee, Ill.
