NORMAN, Okla. (WLCSports.com) - Following its third straight appearance at the NCAA Championship, the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's golf team is receiving votes in the Bushnell Golfweek Division III Preseason Coaches' Poll, released Friday by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
"It's been our goal to be nationally-competitive, but it's more important for our program to end the year on this list than begin on it," said 10th-year head coach Adam Volbrecht. "We will not be satisfied until we find our way to the top of the list at the end of the season."
The Warriors, who tied for 51st of 58 teams mentioned with three poll points, are coming off three straight NACC championships and NCAA Championship appearances. Last season, Wisconsin Lutheran was just one of 17 teams making its third straight NCAA Championship appearance in the 42-team field. WLC returns three of its five lowest-scoring players from a season ago. This is the second time in three seasons the Warriors have been mentioned in the preseason poll.
Wisconsin Lutheran will begin its 2017-2018 campaign at the Culver's-Edgewood Fall Classic September 1-2 in Janesville.
The next Bushnell Golfweek Coaches' Poll will be released September 29.
