MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team was defeated 3-1 in its non-conference finale against Maranatha Thursday night at Warrior Field. The Warriors fell to an even record of 3-3-3, while the Crusaders moved to 4-3-0. It was the first loss for the Warriors through five home games this season.
The game was decided when the Crusaders netted a pair of quick goals within just over two minutes in the first half. Wira Wama scored in the 33rd minute and Daniel Anderson followed in the 35th minute to give Maranatha a 2-0 advantage.
WLC answered less than three minutes after that when Mavric Otterstatter (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) connected on his third goal of the season, assisted by Austin Drake's (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) corner kick.
Wama tallied his second goal of the game in the 63rd minute to make it 3-1.
The Warriors fell despite controlling the shot count 25-11, including a 14-4 advantage in shots in the second half. Drake led WLC with six shots. Jon Stewart (Waukesha, Wis./South) faced four shots on goal and made one save. Alexander Kornivsky made eight saves for the Crusaders.
The Warriors (3-3-3, 0-0-1 NACC) host a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game Saturday against Rockford (0-8-0, 0-2-0 NACC) at 1 p.m. at Warrior Field.
