MILWAUKEE - Senior goalkeeper Jon Stewart (Waukesha, Wis./South) made four saves as the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team shutout Concordia Wisconsin 2-0 Wednesday on Senior Night at Warrior Field. It was the Warriors first victory over the Falcons since winning 1-0 on September 19, 1998.
WLC (7-6-3, 4-3-1 NACC) set the tone early in a physical game that featured 32 combined fouls and seven yellow cards. In the eighth minute, Roman Nino (Lake Worth, Fla./Santaluces) tried a shot from the top of the box that was pushed aside, but Jake Semmann (Grafton, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) was right there to put home the rebound for his seventh goal of the season to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
The score remained the same at halftime with the shots even at four apiece. In the 61st minute, Austin Drake (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) headed down a deflected ball to start a breakaway, and his sliding left-footed finish trickled past Falcons goalkeeper Alec Brew for his sixth goal of the year, handing WLC a 2-0 advantage.
Both teams took 11 shots in the game, led by Drake's four attempts. Jacob Pope led Concordia Wisconsin (7-7-2, 4-3-1 NACC) with three shots. Brew made four saves for the Falcons.
Wisconsin Lutheran will play its final two regular season contests on the road, starting with a game at Aurora (9-5-3, 4-2-2 NACC) Sunday at Noon. Live stats and video will be available on wlcsports.com.
