WAUKESHA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Three members of the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team were honored as the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference announced its 2016 postseason awards on Wednesday.
Freshman defender Teon Fountain (Madison, Wis./Memorial) was selected to the First Team, freshman goalkeeper Erek Lehnen (Fort Myers, Fla./Southwest Florida Christian) was named to the Second Team and All-Freshman Team, and junior forward Isaiah Gronholz (Watertown, Wis../Lakeside Lutheran) was chosen as Honorable Mention.
Fountain, who has played a vital role in the Warriors' backline, has started 16 of 21 games played. In addition to helping aid in five shutout victories, the newcomer scored the game-winning goal on September 24 at Rockford. He is second on the team with 18 shots on target and third with 42 shots. Fountain is the Warriors' first First Team selection since 2013.
Lehnen has started 19 of 21 games played in the net for the Warriors and posted five shutout victories. The rookie leads the NACC with 124 saves and is fourth with a .800 save percentage. Lehnen has recorded 10 or more saves in four matches, including a season-high 22 on October 15 at Aurora. He has accounted for all nine of the Warriors' wins this season. This is the seventh straight year that a Warrior has received Second Team honors.
Gronholz has started in all 21 games for the Warriors, leading the team with seven goals, eight assists, and 22 points. He also ranks fourth in the NACC with 82 shots and leads the team with 41 shots on goal. This is the first all-conference nod for Gronholz, who has netted two game-winning goals this season.
Third-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran (9-7-5) travels to Lisle, Ill., to face second-seeded Benedictine (13-4-2) on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. for the NACC Tournament Final. The winner receives the conference's automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship Tournament.
