NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team was edged 5-4 by both Benedictine and Aurora in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action Saturday afternoon on Parents' Day at the Princeton Club.
The Warriors began their match against the Eagles by winning the No. 3 doubles match as Bethany Soderlund (De Pere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and Amanda Pearson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Luther Preparatory) came away with an 8-6 victory. BenU won both matches at No. 1 and No. 2 by identical 8-5 results.
In singles action, Kendall Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph's) (6-3, 6-2), Pearson (6-3, 4-6, 10-8), and Soderlund (6-3, 6-1) notched wins for the Warriors at No. 1, No. 5, and No. 6. However, the Eagles (2-2, 2-2 NACC) were able to claim wins at No. 2 through No. 4 singles to edge WLC.
Pearson and Soderlund teamed up again at No. 3 doubles to open with an 8-5 win over AU's No. 3 tandem. The Spartans came back to take both remaining matches in doubles action by 8-5 finals.
Singles play saw Bonnin (6-3, 6-0), Kayln Geddes (Bend, Ore./Luther Preparatory) (7-5, 6-4), and Susanna Harbach (Nodine, Minn./Luther) (6-2, 6-2) win their matches at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 singles. Aurora (4-1, 4-1 NACC) then came away with victories at No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 to hand the Warriors another tough defeat.
Wisconsin Lutheran (1-5, 1-2 NACC) begins a stretch of four straight road matches Tuesday when it plays a conference dual at Marian (2-3, 2-2 NACC) beginning at 4 p.m.
