Granath Breaks High Jump Record, Warriors Set 19 Season-Bests At NACC Championships

KENOSHA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's indoor track & field team competed on Saturday at the 2017 NACC Indoor Championships. The Warriors achieved 19 season-bests times and marks while finishing seventh out of nine scoring teams with 28 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Kiana Granath (Lodi, Wis./Lodi) reached a new school record in the high jump with a height of 1.56 meters for second place. She also finished sixth in the 55-meter hurdles in a personal-record of 9.31 seconds. 
  • Cassie Balts (Barron, Wis./Barron) placed seventh in the 3000 meters with a time of 11:19.60 and Anna Curtis (Palmetto, Ga./Homeschooled) finished eighth in a time of 11:30.03. Balts also ran a personal record in the 5000 meters with a time of 19:22.31 to place fifth.
  • Hannah Weide (New Berlin, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) finished eighth in the mile run with a time of 5:39.41. She also ran to a personal record in the 3000 meters with a time of 11:30.90. Kristina Schuette (Manitowoc, Wis./Lutheran) also ran to a personal-best in the 3000 meters in a time of 12:49.67.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran's 4x400-meter relay team of Jessica Stumpner (Crystal Lake, Ill./South), Becca Heller (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee), Hannah Moffenbier (Watertown, S.D./Great Plains Lutheran) and Sami Huebner (Sun Prairie, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) finished fifth with a time of 4:22.19. Huebner also ran a season-best in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 9.23 seconds and recorded a season-best in the long jump (4.75 meters).
  • WLC's distance medley relay team of Siobhan Heiss (Beloit, Wis./Paramount Christian), Moffenbier, Heller, and Bethany Wagenknecht (Yorba Linda, Cali./Esperanza) placed fourth with a time of 13:52.18. 
  • Madison Mihaljevic (West Allis, Wis./Nathan Hale), Erika Shaw (Lafayette, Ind./Harrison), and Jessica Zastrow (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) ran to season-bests in the mile with times of 5:59.41, 6:12.30, and 7:20.29. 
  • Debbie Miller (Mazeppa, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa) jumped to a personal-best in the triple jump with a distance of 9.27 meters. 
  • Wagenknecht and Amanda Van Swol (Racine, Wis./Walden III) ran to new season-bests in the 800 meters with times of 2:39.82 and 2:41.72. 
  • Leah Rosenow (Temecula, Calif./California Lutheran) leaped to season-highs in the long jump (4.74 meters) and triple jump (9.77 meters).
  • Chelsey Tiarks (Zumbrota, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) threw season-bests in the shot put (10.05 meters) and weight throw (9.73 meters).
  • Aurora won its fifth straight NACC indoor title with 194 points.

UP NEXT

  • The Warriors will compete again next Friday at the Gill Athletics Final Qualifier. Events are scheduled to get underway at 4:00 p.m. inside the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center.
