WLC Falls In Three Sets To First-Place Spartans

AURORA, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 conference decision to first-place Aurora Friday night inside Thornton Gymnasium.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Spartans hit a whopping .458 in the first set, collecting 13 kills en route to a 25-12 victory over the Warriors.
  • WLC battled the Spartans in the second set, and held a 21-19 advantage until Aurora used a 6-2 run to close out the game.
  • The Warriors came out strong in the third game and led 7-4, but Aurora rattled off seven straight points to take a 11-7 lead. WLC trailed 17-11, but scored four straight points to try and mount a comeback and force a fourth set.
  • The Spartans thwarted the Warriors' comeback attempt and secured the three-set victory, 25-21.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Grace Tomhave (Verona, Wis.) led the attack for the Warriors with eight kills, while Britley Grulke (Hustisford, Wis.) added seven.
  • Courtney Pattison (Prairie du Chien, Wis.) passed out 11 assists with Heather Warskow (Phoenix, Ariz.) adding seven.
  • Morgan Scanlon (Racine, Wis.) collected 19 digs for WLC.
  • The Warriors hit .122 in the match, while Aurora finished at .217.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran recorded seven total blocks, compared to Aurora's five.

FOR THE FOES

  • Katie Vondra paced the Spartans with 11 kills,
  • Emily Lines dished out 39 assists in the contest.
  • Julia Wood and Makayla Fincher led the defensive effort for Aurora, with 17 and 14 digs, respectively.
  • Aurora recorded seven service aces in the match.
  • AU won its sixth straight match over WLC.
