MILWAUKEE - The WLC women's basketball team
improved to 11-3 in the Northern Athletics Conference with an 84-44
victory over the Marian Sabres on Saturday at the Recreation
Complex.
After Marian held a slim 8-7 lead at the 15:01 mark of the first
half, Wisconsin Lutheran went on a 20-0 run that spanned over eight
minutes to go in front 27-8 with 6:57 left in the half. WLC
extended its lead to 40-18 at halftime. The Warriors held the
Sabres to just 22.6 percent shooting in the half and outscored
Marian's bench 15-0.
The Warriors opened the second half on a 31-4 run to lead by 49
points, 71-22, with 12:11 remaining in the game. WLC, which shot
51.5 percent from the floor, including 66.7 percent from
three-point range in the second half, led by a game-high 50 points
(75-25) less than a minute later. Marian would get no closer than
39 points the rest of the way.
Senior guard Kristen Dillon (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) scored
a game-high 22 points to pace Wisconsin Lutheran, while classmate
Britany Lindert (Milwaukee, Wis./School of Languages) finished with
17 points. Freshman Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) added 11 points off the bench for the Warriors who had 12
of 14 players reach the scoring column.
The Warriors shot 47.6 percent (30-for-63) from the floor for
the game, while the Sabres were held to just 29 percent (18-for-62)
shooting. WLC outscored Marian in bench points, 37-9.
Coleen Moody scored 20 points to lead MU (5-15, 3-11 NAC).
Stephanie Bouchard added 10 points.
Wisconsin Lutheran (13-7, 11-3 NAC) hosts Aurora on Thursday at
7 p.m. at the Recreation Complex. The Spartans defeated the
Warriors 68-56 on January 13 in the teams' first meeting of the
season in Aurora, Ill.
