MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin Lutheran College
jumped out to a 23-point first half lead before holding off the NAC
North-leading Edgewood College Eagles 57-49 on Wednesday night at
the Todd Wehr Edgedome.
The Warriors, who connected on 46.9 percent (15-for-32) of their
shots in the first half, went on a 28-2 run that ended with a 30-7
lead at the 8:50 mark of the half. The Eagles were able to get
within 18 points, 36-18, at halftime. Edgewood shot 30.8 percent
(8-for-26) in the first half. Erika Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen
Lutheran) led the way for the Warriors by scoring nine of her
game-high 18 points in the opening period.
WLC, which led by a second half-high 21 points with 9:14
remaining, was able to hold onto its double-digit lead until just
over one minute left in the game when the Eagles closed within
seven points, 56-49. The Warriors were able to hold off EC despite
being held without a field goal for the final 6:05. Wisconsin
Lutheran shot 32 percent (8-for-25) in the second half, while
Edgewood shot a comparable 33.3 percent (12-for-36).
Laete's 18 points tied a game high, while Krissy Day (West
Allis, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and Alyssa Allister (Lake Mills,
Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) each poured in 10 points. WLC out-rebounded
EC 46-34 in the game. Laete, Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran), Shavon Dillon (Milwaukee, Wis./Hope
School) and Rachel Hoft (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) each pulled
down eight rebounds.
The Warriors, who shot 40.4 percent (23-for-57) for the game,
committed 23 turnovers and struggled from the free throw line for
the second straight game by making just 5 of 12 attempts.
Danielle Dixon scored 18 points and Alison Tobin finished with
12 to pace the Eagles (10-6, 8-2 NAC), who saw their 10-game home
winning streak come to an end. Edgewood shot 32.3 percent
(20-for-62) from the floor in the contest.
Wisconsin Lutheran (12-3, 7-2 NAC) returns to their home
hardwood on Saturday by hosting NAC South-leading Dominican
University (13-3, 8-1 NAC) at 2 p.m. at the Recreation Complex.
