FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Junior Rachel Johnson
(Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) recorded her seventh
double-double of the season on Tuesday night in leading Wisconsin
Lutheran College to a 62-47 victory over Marian University at the
Sadoff Gymnasium.
Wisconsin Lutheran shot a solid 45.5 percent (10-for-22) in the
first half, but was plagued by 16 turnovers. The Warriors held
their largest lead of the first half, 20-7, at the 9:32 mark. The
Sabres, however, went on a 15-0 run to grab a two-point lead with
4:03 left in the half. WLC scored the final six points of the half
and went into the locker room at halftime in front 26-22. Rachel
Hoft (Germantown, Wis./Germantown), who led the Warriors with 13
points in the game, drained three three-pointers to pace the squad
with nine points in the half. Johnson pulled down 10 rebounds.
Marian shot 29 percent (9-for-31) in the period.
The Warriors never relinquished their lead in the second half
after building an 11-point advantage, 43-32, with 11:56 to play.
The Sabres closed within just two points, 45-43, at the 6:38 mark
but couldn't get any closer. WLC's largest lead of 15 points in the
game came as the final buzzer sounded.
WLC shot 41.2 percent (14-for-34) in the second half, while MU
was held to just 31.8 percent (7-for-22).
Hoft finished with 13 points to pace four players in double
figures for the Warriors. Johnson added 11 points and 15 rebounds,
while Alyssa Allister (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) and
Shavon Dillon (Milwaukee, Wis./Hope School) each added 10. WLC
out-rebounded Marian 49-31 and shutout the Sabres in bench scoring,
20-0. The Warriors concluded the game shooting 42.9 percent
(24-for-56).
Alexis Becker and Elizabeth Zutz finished with 18 and 17 points,
respectively, for the Sabres (10-8, 5-8 NAC). MU shot 30.2 percent
(16-for-53) from the floor for the game, including just 22.2
percent (6-for-27) from downtown.
Wisconsin Lutheran (14-3, 9-2 NAC) hosts Alverno College (8-9,
5-6 NAC) on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Complex. The
Warriors defeated the Inferno, who have won three straight games,
69-54 in their first meeting of the season on December 1.
