Warriors Roll To 8-0 In Conference Play

MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team received scoring contributions from all 15 players who saw action as it rolled to an 84-52 win over Dominican Wednesday at the Recreation Complex.

The Warriors came out of the gates strong as they opened the game on a 9-0 run through the first 2:31 of action. After the Stars cut the deficit to four points at 13-9, WLC extended its lead back up to 10 points, 21-11, at the 10:12 mark. Wisconsin Lutheran held a double-digit lead for the final 6:26 of the half, including a first-half best 23-point lead with 1:35 on the clock. The Warriors, who outscored the Stars 25-3 in points off turnovers, held a 45-23 halftime lead.

Junior Melanie Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) led all first-half scorers with nine points. WLC shot 42.9 percent (18-for-42) in the period, compared to 33.3 percent (8-for-24) for DU. Kate Budz netted seven points in the opening half for the visitors.

The Warriors carried their momentum from the end of the first half into the second half as they led by at least 21 points the entire half. WLC, which shot 51.6 percent in the period, led by a game-high 44 points at 84-40 with 4:03 left.

Senior Alyssa Allister (Lake Mills, Wis.,/Lakeside Lutheran) led all scorers with 12 points. Laete added 11 as all 15 players who played in the game for the Warriors reached the scoring column. Sophomore Maggie Gartner (Springdale, Ark./Har-Ber) tied for a game-high seven rebounds in just 10 minutes of action.

For the game, WLC shot 46.6 percent (34-for-73) from the floor while outrebounding the Stars 45-31. The Warriors dominated almost every statistical category, highlighed by a 54-14 margin in points in the paint.

Dominican (0-17, 0-9 NAC), which shot 33.3 percent (15-for-45) for the game, was paced by Katie Budz's 11 points. The Stars turned the ball over 28 times leading to 36 Warriors points.

Wisconsin Lutheran (13-2, 8-0 NAC) will be back in action Saturday when it travels to Madison, Wis., to take on Edgewood (9-9, 8-3 NAC). Tip-time is set for 2 p.m. at the Todd Wehr Edgedome. Live audio, stats, and video will be provided for the game and the links can be found at wlcsports.com.
