Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team overcame an 11-point first-half deficit and used a 21-4 scoring run to begin the second half on its way to defeating the Marian Sabres 64-41 Tuesday night inside Sadoff Gymnasium.
Kristen Schulz (Safford, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) reached double figures for the 15th time in her last 16 games as she tallied a game-high 15 points. Melanie Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) and Brittanny Bahr (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) netted 10 points apiece. Laete also added eight rebounds and five assists. Kelli Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) contributed eight points and nine rebounds off the bench.
After leading by just five points at the intermission, the Warriors (16-3, 14-1 NACC) used a 21-4 scoring run to open the second half and take a 52-30 lead with 10:55 left. MU got no closer than 18 points the remainder of the way as WLC pushed its lead to a game-high 25 points with 3:06 on the clock. The Warriors out-shot the Sabres, who scored just 15 second-half points, 43-26 percent in the half.
Wisconsin Lutheran dominated points in the paint (44-14), points off turnovers (26-4), bench points (24-6), and fastbreak points (16-0). The Forest Green and White shot 45.8 percent (27-for-59) overall for the game.
Marian controlled much of the opening 20 minutes after the Warriors took an early 4-2 lead. The Sabres rattled off eight straight points and later led by 11 points at 19-8 with 11:36 remaining in the first half. WLC began to slowly chip away at its deficit and took the lead back at 27-26 on a Bahr layup with 1:23 left. A 23-7 run to close the half gave the Warriors a 31-26 halftime lead.
WLC shot 48.1 percent (13-for-27) in the first period and was paced by Schulz's nine points. The Warriors turned 11 Sabres turnovers into a 12-2 advantage in points off turnovers. Marian shot 52.4 percent (11-for-21) for the half as Emma Jarvey and Sarah Olewinski had nine points each.
Jarvey and Olewinski scored 11 points each to lead the Sabres (5-16, 5-11 NACC), who finished the game shooting 38.6 percent (17-for-44).
