Warriors Ground Eagles In Battle Of NACC Unbeatens

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team remained perfect on the season with a 63-49 home win over Edgewood on Friday night in a battle of two NACC unbeatens inside the Recreation Complex. Junior Jenna Mace (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) scored a game-high 21 points and connected on four triples as the Warriors won their 12th straight home game.

  • Mace connected on a triple on the Warriors' first possession to open the scoring. The Eagles scored the next five points before a three from junior Kalies Birkholz (Watertown, Wis.) and a layup by freshman Kaitlyn Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) helped Wisconsin Lutheran regain an 8-5 advantage.
  • A 7-0 run by Edgewood midway through the first quarter put the Eagles up four. WLC evened the score a minute later and the two teams traded baskets until a Shadoski layup in the closing seconds put the Warriors up 19-18 at the end of one.
  • Neither side was able to gain an advantage in the second quarter, with the largest lead being just three points for either side. Wisconsin Lutheran scored the final four points of the quarter to take a 30-28 lead into halftime.
  • Senior Amanda Brug (Sturtevant, Wis.) knocked down a three to start the second half, and the Warriors scored seven of the first nine points of the third quarter to take a 37-30 lead. Two more threes from Mace extended the lead to nine and a layup from Brug gave WLC a double-digit advantage at 47-36. The Eagles were able to get back within single digits and trailed 53-44 after three quarters.
  • The Green and White scored the first four points of the final frame, pushing the lead to 13. The Warriors connected on a pair of threes in the final 6:23 minutes of the game, one each from Brug and Mace, and held the Eagles to just five points in the quarter to hand Edgewood its first conference loss of the season by the 63-49 final.

  • Mace led all scorers with 21 points on 7-of-17 shooting, including 4-of-6 from deep. Brug added 14 points, and freshman Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) rounded out the Warriors in double figures with 12.
  • The Warriors shot 38.2 percent (26-of-68) from the field and connected on 40.0 percent (8-of-20) from three.
  • Freshman Liz Bagley (West Bend, Wis.) secured a team-high eight rebounds, while Leisemann and Brug each pulled down seven.
  • WLC forced 15 Edgewood turnovers, and translated those into a 13-8 advantage in points off turnovers.
  • The two teams combined to shoot just eight free throws in the contest.

  • Diamond Pikulyk led the Eagles in scoring with 11 points off the bench and pulled down eight rebounds. Bria Lemirande grabbed a team-high nine boards.
  • Edgewood shot 37.9 percent (22-of-58) from the floor and just 13.3 percent (2-of-15) from beyond the arc. The Eagles bench out-scored the Warriors 17-3.
