Sheffler Sets Shot Put Record At Firebird Opener

KENOSHA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Senior Michael Sheffler (Appleton, Wis.) set a new school record in the Shot Put to lead the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's track & field team at its first meet of the 2022 indoor season on Saturday. The Warriors placed eighth with 20 points in the final standings at the Firebird Opener hosted by Carthage.

  • Event: Firebird Opener
  • Final Results: 8th of 9 (20 Points)
  • Location: Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center, Kenosha, Wis.

  • Sheffler was fourth in the Shot Put with a school-record mark of 14.05m for fourth place. He not only bested his prelim mark of 14.02m, but also the previous school record of 13.66m which had stood since 2008. Sheffler just missed out on scoring in the Weight Throw as he was ninth with a mark of 13.28m.
  • Sophomore Jordan Wiesen (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) finished fourth of 38 in the 200m with a time of 23.98. Wiesen was also fifth in the 55m with a time of 6.85.
  • Sophomore August Davis (Springfield, Ill.) was seventh of 20 in the 800m with a time of 2:07.19.
  • Freshman Carlito Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis.) picked up four points for WLC with a fifth-place finish in the 55m Hurdles.

  • "Anytime you go into your first meet of the season during J-term, you have to set your goals a little different because you're missing a majority of your team and it's early. If this meet is an indicator of how the season and training is going to go, we're in for a big year! Kendra starting where she left off last year is great and setting two school records is icing on the cake. Michael also proved with his own record in the shot put his work in the weight room in the offseason has paid off. We had a total of 22 PR's and three school records in a meet where we only had 17 athletes compete. I can't wait for the rest of our team to get back from break and join us!" - Head Coach Eric Kramer

  • The Warriors compete next Saturday at the Karl Schlender Invitational hosted by UW-Whitewater. Events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
