MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College jumped out to a 14-point lead in the second quarter, but Calvin shot 58.6 percent in the second half to defeat the Warriors 65-57 on Friday in the Paul F. Knueppel Classic at the Time of Grace Center.

The Warriors (0-1) scored the first six points of the game and jumped out to a 13-3 lead after a three from sophomore Madi Manson (Arvada, Colo.) with 2:48 on the first-quarter clock. The Knights (1-0) cut the deficit to five, but WLC closed the opening quarter with five straight points on a three from senior Ally Gough (Horicon, Wis.) and a buzzer-beating fastbreak layup from sophomore Kara Troxel (Bonduel, Wis.) for an 18-8 advantage.

Wisconsin Lutheran extended its lead to a game-high 14 points at 27-13 after a pair of free throws from junior Kaitlyn Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) with 5:06 left in the second quarter. An 11-2 run by CU trimmed its deficit to five at 29-24, but the Warriors went into halftime ahead 33-24 following two free throws from sophomore Mack Hogenson (Neenah, Wis.).

Calvin went on a 17-2 run in the third quarter to turn a 35-27 deficit into a 44-37 lead with 2:47 remaining. WLC trailed by just two points at 47-45 after the third quarter came to a close.

A tightly-contested fourth quarter featured four ties and a trio of lead changes over the first seven minutes of the period. The Knights broke away from a 55-55 tie with eight straight points with under three minutes to play to pull out the win.

Shadoski and junior Meggie Scott (Yorkville, Ill.) led Wisconsin Lutheran with 15 points apiece. Junior Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) added 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds. The Warriors shot 34.6 percent from the floor and were held without a three-point make over the final three quarters.

Leah Harris scored a game-high 22 points and Gabby Timmer netted 10 for CU, which out-scored WLC 24-13 in points off turnovers and 30-20 in the paint.
