Mack Hogenson (Neenah, Wis.) scored a career-high 18 points in just 16 minutes to lead Wisconsin Lutheran College to a convincing 83-38 win over Dominican on Saturday in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at the Igini Sports Forum.
The Warriors (5-3, 3-1 NACC), who shot over 47 percent in the first quarter, scored the first 14 points of the game to take control early. Hogenson netted half of those points during the opening run. WLC led by a first-quarter high 17 points at 18-1 after freshman
Paige Werner's (Neenah, Wis.) layup at the 4:30 mark. Wisconsin Lutheran held the Stars (0-9, 0-4 NACC) to just 2-for-11 shooting for a 22-6 lead after one quarter.
The second quarter started with the Warriors scoring the first nine points, capped by a three from Hogenson for a 25-point advantage. WLC, which scored a game-high 29 points in the period, used separate scoring runs of 5-0 and 10-0 over the final 3:20 to carry a commanding 51-13 cushion into halftime. Wisconsin Lutheran made four of its seven three-point attempts in the quarter, while limiting DU to just three made field goals.
The Warriors' lead ballooned to a game-high 46 points early in the third quarter after they scored the first eight points out of halftime, culminating with a fastbreak layup from junior
Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.). The lead remained at least 40 points for all but 1:06 of the period as WLC led 67-26 through three quarters.
A back-and-forth final frame still saw Wisconsin Lutheran out-score Dominican 16-12, despite the hosts shooting over 55 percent. The Warriors maintained a lead of at least 40 points for the final six minutes of the contest, including a 45-point margin as time ticked away.
Hogenson led all scorers with a career-high 18 points on 4-for-5 from three-point range. Sophomore
Ella Ten Pas (Oostburg, Wis.) tallied a season-high 15 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Sophomore
Kara Troxel (Bonduel, Wis.) added a career-high 14 points off the bench.
WLC, which shot 42.1 percent (32-for-76) from the floor and a season-best 85.7 percent (12-for-14) from the charity stripe, had season highs for points (83), assists (20), and steals (12).
Mariangely Velez was the lone Stars' player in double figures with 11 points. DU shot 28.6 percent (14-for-49) for the game and committed 26 turnovers.
