Women's Basketball's Winning Streak Stopped By St. Norbert

Box Score

DE PERE, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team saw its quest for a perfect regular season record come to an end on Tuesday night, as St. Norbert handed the Warriors a 59-56 setback in their final game of the NACC slate inside the Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center. WLC fell behind by 19 points in the second quarter and couldn't get over the hump the rest of the way.

  • Final Score: St. Norbert 59, No. 10/15 Wisconsin Lutheran 56
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (20-1, 15-1 NACC), St. Norbert (17-7, 14-3 NACC)
  • Location: Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center, De Pere, Wis.

  • A cold-shooting first quarter put the Warriors in an early hole as they trailed 8-0 four minutes into the game. WLC's first and only bucket of the opening quarter came from sophomore Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) at the 5:01 mark. The Green Knight scored the final six points of the quarter to take a 14-2 lead after one period of play.
  • SNC expanded its lead to 21-2 a minute-and-a-half into the second quarter before a three from sophomore Meggie Scott (Yorkville, Ill.) put Wisconsin Lutheran on the board with 7:22 left in the second quarter. The Green and White wouldn't go away as they went on a 14-2 scoring run, capped by a three from senior Ally Gough (Horicon, Wis.), to come within six points at 25-19. St. Norbert went into halftime in front 28-23.
  • The Warriors were within three points on four different occasions early in the third quarter, but a 6-1 spurt gave the Green Knights their biggest lead of the period at 41-33 with 3:43 left. WLC trimmed its deficit down to three again on a layup from sophomore Kaitlyn Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) with 0:22 seconds remaining, but a pair of SNC free throws gave the hosts a 46-41 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran trailed by seven points at 50-43 with 7:08 left in the fourth quarter, before a three-point play from Shadoski and a Gough three brought the visitors to within a point at the 6:05 mark. St. Norbert went in front again by seven points with 3:19 remaining but five straight from Shadoski had the Green and White within two with two minutes left. The Warriors had multiple chances to take their first lead, but two missed shots and two turnovers during the final 1:34 of the game proved costly.
  • Shadoski scored a game-high 17 points to lead WLC, while Leisemann recorded her eighth career double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Gough added 12 points off the bench on four three-pointers.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran shot 38.8 percent (19-for-49) for the game but dominated the Green Knights on the glass 43-27. The Green and White committed 17 turnovers which SNC turned into 23 points.

  • As the top-seeded team in the upcoming NACC Tournament, the Warriors have a first round bye and will host the winner of No. 8 Lakeland and No. 9 Concordia Chicago next Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a Quarterfinal matchup. Live coverage links will be available for the game at WLCSports.com.
