Fast Start Fuels Wisconsin Lutheran Past Dominican

Warriors surpass 80-point plateau for second time against DU

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College scored 32 points and shot over 68 percent in the first quarter en route to an easy 81-47 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Dominican on Saturday at the Time of Grace Center.

The Warriors (9-6, 6-2 NACC) set the tone early by jumping out to an 11-2 lead and forcing a timeout by the Stars (1-14, 0-8 NACC) less than three minutes into the first quarter. WLC, which held DU scoreless over the final 6:24 of the opening quarter, scored on five straight possessions to close the first period with a commanding 32-5 lead.

Wisconsin Lutheran scored eight straight points to start the second quarter, including threes from sophomores Lexy Smit (Brandon, Wis.) and Haley Ott (Germantown, Wis.) for a 40-5 cushion. The Warriors maintained a lead of at least 30 points for the entire quarter, as they went into halftime in front 47-17.

WLC answered a Dominican three-point play to start the second half with a 7-0 scoring run, capped by a layup from sophomore Madi Manson (Arvada, Colo.) who had seven points in the period. The lead ballooned to a third quarter-high of 39 points following senior Simeon Schult's (Wausau, Wis.) jumper for a 71-32 lead. Wisconsin Lutheran carried a 71-34 lead into the fourth quarter.

Another 7-0 scoring spurt to begin the fourth quarter gave the Warriors a game-high 44-point advantage after freshman Katie Krause's (Tomah, Wis.) layup. Three straight triples from Dominican marked their largest run of the game before the final margin read 81-47.

Manson and fellow sophomore Ella Ten Pas (Oostburg, Wis.) tied for a game-high 11 points each. Ott and junior Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) added 10 points apiece. Smit finished with a career-high nine rebounds, while junior Meggie Scott (Yorkville, Ill.) dished out a career-high nine assists. WLC shot 48.4 percent (31-for-64) for the game, including a season-high 52.9 percent (9-for-17) from beyond the arc. Wisconsin Lutheran grabbed a season-high 54 rebounds and out-scored the Stars 17-0 in fastbreak points and 14-3 in second-chance points.

Kameron Goodman and Kamryn Woods scored 10 points apiece to pace the Stars, who were held to 28.3 percent (17-for-60) shooting from the floor.

The Warriors are on the road for two NACC games this week, beginning Wednesday with a 7 p.m. contest at Marian (4-11, 3-5 NACC). Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
