MADISON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Third-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran College saw its 2022-2023 season come to an end on Friday, falling to second-seeded Edgewood 5-0 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament Semifinal match at Quann Park.
The Warriors (9-10) came up short in all three doubles matches to the Eagles (13-8). Juniors
Katelynn Haskell (Santa Maria, Calif.) and
Jena Smith (Lake Mills, Wis.) were defeated 8-3 by EC's Cecile Fuchs and Madelyn Connaughty. At No. 2, juniorsÂ
Izzy Hawley (Allen Park, Mich.) and
Sky Pope (Macon, Ga.) fell 8-3 to Jewell Lindwall and Maddy Coopmans. Sophomores
Ali Schmidt (Germantown, Wis.) and
Haley Olson (Appleton, Wis.) suffered an 8-2 setback to Evelyn Taylor and Ellie Murphy at No. 3.
In singles competition, Haskell fell to Fuchs 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 and Pope was bested by Coopmans 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5. The remaining four singles matches went unfinished.
Edgewood moves on to face top-seeded Concordia Wisconsin on Sunday in the NACC Tournament Final.
WLC, which made its fifth straight NACC Tournament appearance, concludes its 2022-2023 season 9-10 overall and 6-2 in the NACCÂ for third place.
