MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) -Â Wisconsin Lutheran College extended its winning streak to 13 games following a 91-52 rout of Alverno on Saturday at Reiman Gymnasium.
The Warriors (18-4, 13-1 NACC), who sit alone atop the NACC standings with two games remaining, set season highs for points (91), field goal percentage (55.2), three-point percentage (56.3), and free throw attempts (28) to win their 19th straight game over the Inferno (3-20, 1-13 NACC).
Three of Alverno's first four made field goals came from beyond the arc, as it held an 11-5 lead over Wisconsin Lutheran four minutes in. WLC had a quick answer, however, as six different players combined to score 13 straight points to take the lead for good, 18-11. Two free throws from AC in final minute made the score 18-13 after the first quarter.
The Warriors netted the first 11 points of the second quarter to open up a 16-point lead less than four minutes in. Another 8-0 run by Wisconsin Lutheran extended the margin to a first-half best 22 points at 37-15. The lead remained 22 points at the break, as seven different players scored in the quarter for WLC, which shot 69.2 percent (9-for-13).
Freshman
Margie Stevens (Oneida, Wis.) scored nine of the Warriors' first 11 points to start the second half, as Wisconsin Lutheran led 54-21 just 2:11 into the third quarter. The Inferno were unable to get their deficit under 30 points the rest of the way, and a Stevens' layup at the three-minute mark put WLC ahead by 34 points. Stevens scored 13 of the 20 third-quarter points for the Warriors, who went into the final frame in front 63-31.
Junior
Janiyah Goner (Milwaukee, Wis.) gave Wisconsin Lutheran its first 40-point lead of the night after a jumper just over three minutes into the fourth quarter. Freshman
Courtney Park's (Rockford, Ill.) lone points of the contest put WLC ahead by a game-high 44 points with under a minute left. Freshman
Marin Riesen (Watertown, Wis.) scored all 10 of her points in the fourth period, as the Warriors tallied 28 points on 11-for-17 shooting.
Stevens led all scorers with 18 points and sophomore
Jayden Hill (Kenosha, Wis.) recorded her first career double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. She also added four assists and three steals. Goner and Riesen chipped in a career-high 10 points each off the bench. Wisconsin Lutheran shot a season-high 55.2 percent (32-for-58) from the floor, including a season-best 56.3 percent (9-for-16) from three-point range.
Dionna Woodson led two players in double figures with 16 points for Alverno, which shot 30.6 percent (15-for-49) for the game.
WLC looks to avenge its lone conference loss from over two months ago on Wednesday when it travels to Edgewood (13-10, 12-2 NACC) at 7 p.m. The winner will have a favorable path to the conference championship and top seeding in the conference tournament.
