WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College secured its second straight Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference sweep on Wednesday with a 7-0 shutout over Lakeland at Hart Park.
The Warriors (3-3, 2-3 NACC) picked up the doubles point after senior
Ali Schmidt (Germantown, Wis.) and sophomore
Maddy Olson (Onalaska, Wis.) were 6-4 winners over the Muskies' Olivia Heling and Alexis Labonte at No. 1. Freshmen
Joelle Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Amelia Kelley (Appleton, Wis.) improved their perfect record on the season to 6-0 with a 6-2 victory over Emily Pautz and Mary Johnson at No. 2. The No. 3 team of freshman
Tai Mitchell (Elm Grove, Wis.) and junior
Desirae Pugh (Ixonia, Wis.) picked up a win by default.
WLC prevailed in every singles match, including two that went to three-set tiebreakers. Schmidt outlasted Heling 4-6, 6-0, 10-6 at No. 1, Olson ousted Labonte 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2, and Smith posted a 6-0, 6-2 over Pautz at No. 3. Kelley held off Johnson 4-6, 6-3, 11-9 at No. 4, Mitchell shutout Narita Yuu 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, and Pugh won by default at No. 6.
