KENOSHA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College won three events and scored 66 points en route to a fourth-place team finish at the Firebird First Invitational hosted by Carthage on Saturday at Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center Fieldhouse.
Junior
Silas Ebeling (Wauwatosa, Wis.) claimed first place in the 800m with a winning time of 2:03.54, while junior
Noah Micheel (Mequon, Wis.) captured the 3000m, crossing the line in 9:23.92. The Warriors also picked up a victory in the DMR, as the quartet of senior
Ray Woller (Mount Horeb, Wis.), freshman
Sam Splinter (Ixonia, Wis.), junior
Tyler Kleinhans (Fall Creek, Wis.), and junior
Arnold Rupnow (Watertown, Wis.) finished first in 11:15.96.
WLC added a runner-up finish in the 400m from sophomore
Caden Strubbe (Madison, Wis.), who placed second with a time of 52.95. In the 3000m, Wisconsin Lutheran had multiple athletes place inside the top eight, led by senior
Jack Staggs (Oostburg, Wis.), who finished third in 9:33.56, followed closely by freshman
Vaughn Miller (West Allis, Wis.) in fourth at 9:40.28. On the track in the relays, the Warriors' 4x400m Relay "B" team of Splinter, Woller, Kleinhans, and freshman
Caleb Schreiber (Mukwonago, Wis.) earned third place with a time of 3:40.25.
Additional top-eight performances included senior
Isaiah Krenek (Aurora, Ill.), who took fifth in the 400m with a time of 53.48, senior
Abuchi Osuala (Milwaukee, Wis.), who was sixth in the 200m with a time of 23.08, and Schreiber, who finished sixth in the Mile in 4:35.31. In the field events, freshman
Carson Frisch (Johnson Creek, Wis.) earned an eighth-place finish in the High Jump after clearing 1.75m.
Meet host Carthage won six events and scored 176 points to win the eight-team scoring title.
WLC will compete next Saturday, January 21, at the Aurora Grand Prix in Chicago, Illinois. Events are scheduled to start at 11 a.m. at Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center.
