MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College jumped out to a big lead early on and never looked back on its way to an 81-38 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victory over Rockford on Saturday at Time of Grace Center.
The Warriors (12-5, 9-1 NACC) used a 13-0 run midway through the first quarter to pull ahead 21-4 with 1:49 remaining. Junior
Margie Stevens (Oneida, Wis.) netted seven first-quarter points as WLC led 23-8 after one quarter of play.
Wisconsin Lutheran held the Regents (1-16, 2-7 NACC) without a field goal during the second quarter and kept them scoreless until a free throw in the final minute. The Warriors extended their halftime lead to 43 points at 52-9. WLC shot a game-high 59.1 percent (13-for-22) from the floor in the second period.
An 8-0 run to begin the third quarter, six of which came from Stevens, gave Wisconsin Lutheran a 51-point advantage, its largest of the game. RU was unable to chip away at the deficit, as the Warriors took a 70-20 lead into the final quarter.
Rockford scored the first five points of the fourth quarter before WLC responded with a pair of layups. Both teams exchanged buckets down the stretch as Wisconsin Lutheran walked away with an 81-38 victory.
Stevens led the Warriors with a game-high 22 points. Freshman
Kenly Frey (Brookfield, Wis.) finished with nine points and freshman
Madeline Leffel (Germantown, Wis.) chipped in eight points. Thirteen different players from WLC found the scoring column as it shot 48.6 percent (34-for-70) from the field for the game. Frey finished with four assists, while senior
Jayden Hill (Kenosha, Wis.) tallied six points, five rebounds, and four steals.
Te Simpson led the Regents with 13 points and eight rebounds. RU shot 13-for-34 (38.2 percent) from the floor.
