ALLENDALE, Mich. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College delivered a record-setting performance on Saturday at the GVSU Big Meet at Kelly Family Sports Center, highlighted by two school records and a host of personal-best efforts against a deep field of competition.
Senior
Abuchi Osuala (Milwaukee, Wis.) broke a 14-year old school record in the 200m with a personal-best time of 22.32 seconds, besting the prior school-record mark of 22.52 seconds from 2012. He also clocked 6.90 seconds in the 60m earlier in the meet. In the 60m, junior
DeShawn Wells (Sioux City, Iowa) posted a season-best 7.57, while sophomore
Jared Frey (New Ulm, Minn.) recorded a personal-best 7.59. Wells later added a personal-best 11.55 in the 60m Hurdles.
Sophomore
Caden Strubbe (Madison, Wis.) posted a season-best 22.99 in the 200m, while Frey and freshman
Andrew Hauser (Grayslake, Ill.) registered personal-bests of 24.50 and 25.33, respectively.
The Warriors turned in several standout performances in the 400m. Strubbe led the way with a personal-best 50.31, and senior
Isaiah Krenek (Aurora, Ill.) followed with a personal-best 51.49. Freshman
Anders Gabb (Los Angeles, Calif.) ran a personal-best 55.20, and Hauser notched his second PR on the day, running 57.38.
In the middle-distance events, freshmen
Sam Splinter (Ixonia, Wis.) (1:56.99) and
Caleb Schreiber (Mukwonago, Wis.) (1:57.86) each recorded personal-best times in the 800m. Freshman
Will Kesting (Neosho, Wis.) added a personal-best 4:50.44 in the Mile, while freshman
Vaughn Miller (West Allis, Wis.) posted a personal-best 9:17.65 in the 3,000m.
In the field events, junior
Brendan Cruz (Cape Coral, Fla.) recorded a personal-best 7.39m in the Weight Throw, and freshman
Midley Bazil (Clermont, Fla.) added a personal-best 6.28m.
WLC capped the meet with another record-breaking performance in the 4x400m Relay, as the quartet of Krenek, Strubbe, Schreiber, and Splinter set a new school record and season-best time of 3:26.00, breaking a seven-year old record of 3:29.70.
Wisconsin Lutheran returns to action next Saturday, February 21, at the Panther Tune-Up at the Klotsche Center in Milwaukee. Events are scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
