Wisconsin Lutheran Rolls Past Dominican, 80-47

Warriors take over sole possession of first place in NACC

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College controlled the game from the opening tip and never looked back, rolling to an 80-47 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Dominican on Saturday at Igini Sports Forum.

The Warriors (18-5, 15-1 NACC) set the tone early, building a 13-8 advantage after one quarter while holding the Stars to 14.3 percent shooting in the opening 10 minutes. Freshman Kenly Frey (Brookfield, Wis.) scored eight points in the quarter to pace all scorers.

WLC stretched the lead to double digits for the first time three minutes into the second quarter after a three-pointer from Frey, and led by 14 points with 4:14 remaining. After DU came within eight, Wisconsin Lutheran closed the half on an 8-0 run over the final 1:03, capped by a fast-break layup from senior Jayden Hill (Kenosha, Wis.) in the final 10 seconds, to take a 36-20 lead into the locker room. Frey finished with 17 first-half points, nearly outscoring Dominican by herself in the half.

The third quarter belonged to the Warriors as they continued to separate, scoring a game-high 24 points in the frame. A pair of 6-0 scoring spurts in the quarter pushed WLC's lead past 20, including taking a 60-31 lead into the fourth quarter. Junior Margie Stevens (Oneida, Wis.) netted 13 of Wisconsin Lutheran's 24 points in the period.

The Warriors led by at least 30 points for the final eight minutes of the fourth quarter, and built their largest lead of 38 late in the quarter before cruising to the 33-point victory. WLC shot a game-high 58.8 percent from the floor in the final frame.
