Silas Petrie is in his fifth season as an assistant coach for the Wisconsin Lutheran College men’s and women’s track & field teams. He serves as WLC’s throws coach.

Petrie joined the Warriors’ staff after a successful throwing career at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he helped lead the Panthers to three Horizon League Championships. Petrie was a 2016 NCAA West Regional Qualifier in the Hammer Throw and Horizon League champion in the Discus. A four-time member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll, Petrie was a three-time All-Horizon League Second Team selection and two-time Horizon League Athlete of the Week. He graduated from UWM in 2018 with a degree in mechanical engineering.

A First Team All-Olympian Conference multi-sport athlete at Brillion High School, Petrie set the school record in the Discus (170’ 2”) as a senior, when he also placed fifth at the WIAA state meet in the Discus and ninth in the Shot Put. He was a member of the Lions’ 2010 WIAA Division 5 State Football Championship team. Petrie also was state runner-up in his wrestling weight class as a senior, finishing with a 47-2 record and became the first athlete from Brillion to qualify for the state wrestling finals in 20 years.

Petrie is a patent engineer at Michael Best & Friedrich LLP. He resides in South Milwaukee with his wife, Lianna Hawi.
