Ausen joins the Warriors after nine successful seasons at Lakeside Lutheran High School, where he served as head coach for both the boys and girls cross country programs and assistant track & field coach for distance events. Under his leadership, the Lakeside Lutheran boys captured multiple conference and sectional titles, highlighted by a WIAA Division 2 State Championship in 2023 and a state runner-up finish in 2022. On the girls' side, his teams claimed back-to-back conference championships in 2023 and 2024 and were sectional runners-up and state qualifiers in 2022.

In track & field, Ausen helped guide the LLHS boys to consecutive WIAA Division 2 State Championships in 2023 and 2024, overseeing a distance crew that consistently dominated regional and sectional competition. For his accomplishments, he was named the 2023 WCCCA Division 2 Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year. The Warriors' girls teams also captured four WIAA regional titles and a trio of conference championships.

A native of Waukesha, Ausen was a standout student-athlete at WLC in both cross country and track & field. He was a three-time First Team All-Conference honoree in cross country and earned multiple school records on the track, including the indoor Mile and Distance Medley Relay, and outdoor 1500m, 3000m, and 10,000m.

Ausen earned his bachelor's degree in Early Adolescent Education, History, and Broad Field Social Studies from WLC in 2007. He and his wife, Katie, live in Lake Mills with their two children, Miles and Margot.
