ALMA, Mich. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
football team suffered a 28-20 loss to the Alma College Scots on
Saturday afternoon on Homecoming at Alma's Bahlke Field.
Wisconsin Lutheran trailed 14-0 after the first quarter as Alma
scored two late first quarter touchdowns to go out in front. The
Warriors answered back with two scores of their own in the second
quarter.
Larry Hairl (Chicago, Ill./Roberto Clemente) scored both of
WLC's touchdowns in the quarter, the first coming on a 55 yard run
and the second on a 14 yard reception from T.J. Bodnar (Racine,
Wis./Park). Wisconsin Lutheran trailed 14-13 as both teams headed
into the locker room.
The Scots scored the lone touchdown of the third quarter and
took a 21-13 lead into the final quarter. Alma added another fourth
quarter touchdown midway through for a 28-13 advantage.
The Warriors scored their final touchdown with 10 seconds to
play in the game as Bodnar found Mark Paterson (Cedar Rapids,
Iowa/John F. Kennedy) from 10 yards out to make the final score
28-20 as the onside kick attempt failed.
Hairl finished with 104 yards on the ground, the second
consecutive game that he has surpassed the century mark. Eric
Treske (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) caught eight passes for 161
yards, including a 42-yard reception on a fourth down and 41 play
in the fourth quarter. Bodnar connected on 22 of 30 passing
attempts for 254 yards and two touchdowns.
Colin Makepeace (Cape Canaveral, Fla./Cocoa Beach) and Nate
Rosenberg (Hortonville, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) led the defense
with 11 tackles each.
Wisconsin Lutheran (1-5, 0-3 MIAA) will be back home at Raabe
Stadium next week for its annual Homecoming game, taking on
Kalamazoo College. Kickoff between the Warriors and Hornets is
scheduled for 12 p.m.
