LISLE, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's basketball team improved to 2-0 in the Northern Athletics
Conference with a 70-45 trouncing of the Benedictine University
Eagles on Wednesday night at the Rice Center.
Wisconsin Lutheran fell behind 5-0 in the first two minutes of
the opening half, but used a 15-3 run over the next three minutes
and held on the rest of the half to lead 31-25 at the break. Emily
Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran), who scored a season-high
24 points, connected on four of her five three-point field goals in
the opening half.
WLC, which went on a 12-0 run beginning at the 10:23 mark of the
second half, shot 51.9 percent (14-27) in the half and led by as
many as 27 to coast to the victory, out-scoring the Eagles by 19 in
the period.
Britany Lindert (Milwaukee, Wis./School of Languages) finished
with 18 points, while Kristen Dillon (Germantown, Wis./Germantown)
added 10 as all of the players who suited up for the Warriors saw
action. Wisconsin Lutheran shot 11-12 from the charity stripe for
the game, opposed to BU which shot just 3-9. WLC edged out BU on
the glass, 42-38
Tiffany Hardy and Tamika Curtis scored 11 points apiece to lead
Benedictine (2-5, 1-2 NAC). Curtis, the NAC Player of the Year a
season ago, was held 11 points and seven rebounds below her season
average.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-3, 2-0 NAC) returns home on Saturday to
face the Dominican University Stars in an NAC game beginning at 5
p.m. in the Recreation Complex. The game will be followed by the
men's contest at 7:15 p.m. between the same two teams.
