MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran College scored
20 points in the first quarter and never looked back as the
Warriors went on to defeat Aurora University 23-13 on Parents' Day
on Saturday afternoon at Raabe Stadium.
The scoring began with a 59-yard touchdown strike from
quarterback T.J. Bodnar to Mark Paterson with 8:34 remaining in the
opening quarter. Aurora was forced to punt on its next possession
and Eric Treske came through the line and blocked the punt.
Bodnar wasted no time capitalizing as he threw his second
touchdown strike of the day to sophomore receiver Dominique Johnson
with 6:06 to go in the quarter. Aurora again struggled on offense
was quarterback Craig McQuade's pass was picked off by Darnell
Williams. The Warriors drove deep into Spartan territory and capped
off the drive with a Larry Hairl two-yard touchdown run.
The Spartans' defense stiffened in the second quarter and held
WLC scoreless, as well as posting a touchdown of their own and went
into the half trailing 20-7. The Warriors managed only three points
in the second half on a Tim Reichelt 23-yard field goal, but it
turned out to be all they needed as they won 23-13.
Bodnar ended the day completing 21 passes on 36 attempts for 249
yards and two touchdowns, completing at least three passes to five
different receivers.
The Warrior defense was responsible for six sacks on the day,
including two by linebacker Nate Rosenberg.
Wisconsin Lutheran (1-0) will travel to the University of
Dubuque next Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff with the Spartans.
