MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's basketball team suffered its first Northern Athletics
Conference defeat of the season on Saturday night, falling to the
Lakeland College Muskies 100-94 after four overtime periods.
The four overtime periods tied a NCAA Division III record for
the most overtime periods played in a single game.
Kristen Dillon (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) led all scorers
with a career-high 36 points. Alaina Miller (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle
Moraine Lutheran) also added career high's with 22 points and 15
rebounds. Britany Lindert (Milwaukee, Wis./School of Languages)
finished with 13, while Chelsie Bylsma (Cambria,
Wis./Cambria-Friesland) grabbed 11 rebounds.
Lakeland managed to grab a 25-24 halftime lead despite shooting
just 20.7 percent (6-29) in the first half. The Warriors shot 30.3
percent (10-33) in the half.
Wisconsin Lutheran led by six points twice in the second half
but saw itself down by six (55-49) with 3:08 to play. A layup by
Miller with 18 seconds left put the Warriors in front 56-55.
Lakeland managed to draw a foul and connected on one of two
free-throw attempts to send the game into the first overtime
session.
WLC jumped out to a six-point (64-58) lead in the first
overtime, but the Muskies fought back and made the final basket as
time expired to tie the game 65-65. Dillon kept the Warriors in
line for the win as she scored game-tying buckets in both the
second and third overtime frames.
Lakeland held the lead the entire time in the fourth overtime,
nailing a pair of three-point field goals to seal the win.
The Warriors finished the game by shooting just 36.4 percent
(32-88) from the field and 17.2 percent (5-29) from beyond the
arc.
Brenda Paulson led five players in double figures for Lakeland
(7-9, 4-5 NAC) with 30 points. The Muskies shot 32.9 percent for
the game, but connected on 37 of 45 free-throw attempts.
Wisconsin Lutheran (7-7, 6-1 NAC) travels to River Forest, Ill.,
on Tuesday night for a NAC matchup against the Concordia University
Chicago Cougars at 7 p.m.
