ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's basketball team concluded its string of nine-straight road
games by defeating the Rockford College Regents 96-87 on Monday
night in a Northern Athletics Conference game at Seaver
Gymnasium.
Christian Lindberg (Horsens, Denmark) shot 4 of 6 from
three-point range and scored 23 points to lead four starters in
double figures. Danny Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran)
and Marcus Zondag (Randolph, Wis./Randolph) finished with 18 points
each, while Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran)
finished with 11. Zondag also added 11 rebounds.
Wisconsin Lutheran, who led from the opening tip until the final
horn sounded, led by as many as 14 points in the first half before
heading into the halftime with a 50-42 lead.
The Warriors shot 62.5 percent (20-32) in the second half and
built their lead up to 19 points before Rockford managed to cut the
deficit to five points (86-81) in the closing minutes. Zondag
countered with a key three-pointer on the Warriors' next possession
to build the lead back up to nine points as the Regents would get
no closer.
WLC shot 55.1 percent (38-69) from the field for the game, while
Rockford shot 50.8 percent (32-63). Wisconsin Lutheran held a 38-31
advantage on the glass, but turned the ball over an
uncharacteristic 16 times.
Rockford (0-17, 0-10 NAC), who made only 10 of 20 free-throw
attempts, was led in scoring by Renell Taylor's game-high 28
points.
Wisconsin Lutheran (11-4, 5-3 NAC) returns home to the
Recreation Complex on Wednesday playing host to Benedictine
University in a NAC showdown at 7 p.m., marking the first time
since December 8 that the Warriors will play on their home
court.
