RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College women's basketball team shot just 20 percent in the first
half, trailing by 19 points at halftime, as the Concordia
University Chicago Cougars defeated the Warriors 65-55 on Tuesday
night at the Geiseman Gymnasium.
Wisconsin Lutheran managed to score only six points through the
first 13 minutes of the first half and went into the locker room
looking at a 19-point deficit, 35-16.
The Cougars extended their lead in the second half to 24 points
(45-21) with 12:02 left in the game. However, WLC did not go down
without putting up a fight. The Warriors went on a 24-5 run over
the next eight minutes to cut their deficit to five points (50-45)
with 3:33 remaining.
CUC connected on 10 of its final 12 free-throw attempts over the
final three minutes to seal the win and hand Wisconsin Lutheran its
second-straight loss in the Northern Athletics Conference.
Kristen Dillon (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) scored a game-high
25 points to pace Wisconsin Lutheran. Alaina Miller (Cedarburg,
Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Warriors shot only 32.2 percent (19-69) for the game and
finished with 25 turnovers. Both teams finished with 37 total
rebounds.
Marche Smith led four players in double-figures for Concordia
Chicago (9-6, 7-3 NAC) with 21 points.
Wisconsin Lutheran (7-8, 6-2 NAC) tries to snap its brief
two-game losing skid on Thursday when it travels to Aurora, Ill.,
for a conference matchup with the Aurora University Spartans at 7
p.m.
