MILWAUKEE - Marcus Zondag (Randolph,
Wis./Randolph) scored a career-high 29 points and grabbed 11
rebounds to lead four players in double figures as the Wisconsin
Lutheran College men's basketball team topped the Benedictine
University Eagles 93-75 on Wednesday night in a Northern Athletics
Conference game at the Recreation Complex.
The Warriors have run their winning streak to five games,
including posting wins in eight of their last nine games. Zondag's
29-point, 11-rebound performance marked the second consecutive game
that he has recorded a double-double and fifth so far this
season.
Nate Sorum (Mequon, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) finished with 13
points, while Danny Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran)
and Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) added 12
points apiece.
Wisconsin Lutheran jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and led by as
many as 14 points (25-11) in the first half. Benedictine trimmed
the Warriors' lead down to eight (45-37) at halftime.
WLC, which shot 60 percent (18-30) from the floor in the second
half, began the half on a 12-2 run, building an 18-point lead with
16:49 left. The Warriors continued to add to their lead in the
half, holding a 25-point margin twice under the seven minute
mark.
Wisconsin Lutheran connected on 13 three-point baskets in the
contest; the sixth time this season it has made more than 10 in a
game. For the game, Benedictine shot 53.7 percent (29-54), while
the Warriors shot 49.2 percent (31-63).
The Eagles (6-11, 5-5 NAC), who had four players reach
double-figures, were led by Cameron Snelling's 21 points off the
bench.
Wisconsin Lutheran (12-4, 6-3 NAC) will be in action next
Tuesday when it hosts the Concordia University Chicago Cougars in a
NAC game at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Complex.
