MEQUON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's basketball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an
end on Thursday night in a 95-90 loss to the Concordia University
Wisconsin Falcons in a Northern Athletics Conference game at the
John Buuck Field House.
Wisconsin Lutheran jumped out to an 11-3 lead, which it held
until the 5:41 mark of the first half. The Falcons closed out the
first half on a 12-3 run and went into the locker room with a 52-40
lead.
Concordia Wisconsin scored the first bucket of the second half
to lead by 14 points, its largest margin of the game. The Warriors
clawed their way back into the game, taking a 72-68 lead with 9:17
remaining.
CUW answered back with nine-straight points to regain a lead
that it never relinquished. WLC, which trailed 93-90 with :12
seconds left, had one last chance to tie the game, but failed to
come down with the rebound on a Falcon missed free throw.
The Warriors finished the game shooting 43.7 percent (31-71)
from the floor, but only 9-for-31 from beyond the arc. Meanwhile,
the Falcons shot 54.4 percent (37-68) for game, including a
scorching 54.5 percent (12-22) from long distance.
Christian Lindberg (Horsens, Denmark) led all five Warrior
starters in double figures with 22 points. Danny Behm (Jackson,
Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) finished with 19 points, six rebounds
and seven assists. Marcus Zondag (Randolph, Wis./Randolph) added
17.
Nate Sorum (Mequon, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and Kyle Plath
(Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) scored 15 and 11 points,
respectively.
Concordia Wisconsin (12-6, 7-4 NAC), who has won six straight
games, was paced by David Lipanot's game-high 32 points and seven
rebounds.
Wisconsin Lutheran (12-5, 6-4 NAC) returns to the Recreation
Complex on Saturday when it hosts Maranatha Baptist Bible College
at 3:15 p.m. as part of a Winterfest doubleheader with the women's
team.
