RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College men's basketball team was defeated by the Dominican
University Stars 76-71 on Wednesday night in a Northern Athletics
Conference game at the Igini Sports Forum.
Dominican jumped out to an early 10-0 lead, but the Warriors
fought back to grab a 22-19 lead at the 11:53 mark of the first
half. The Stars regained the lead a short time later and led 40-29
at halftime. Despite the Warriors' 11-point deficit, they managed
to shoot 50 percent (12-24) in the opening half.
The Stars scored the first four points of the second half and
built a 16-point lead (45-29). Once again, WLC was able to overcome
the margin and tie the score 54-54 with 11:17 left.
Marcus Zondag (Randolph, Wis./Randolph), who finished with seven
points and a game-high nine rebounds, gave the Warriors a 64-61
lead with 4:51 left when he knocked down three free throws after
being fouled on a three-point attempt. Dominican then used a 10-4
run over the next two minutes, keyed by a Jose Garcia
three-pointer, to seal the win.
Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) led Wisconsin
Lutheran in scoring with 19 points. Christian Lindberg (Horsens,
Denmark) and Danny Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran)
added 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Garcia led four players in double figures for the Stars (5-8,
2-4 NAC) with 20 points, including 6 of 11 from three-point
range.
WLC shot 51 percent (26-51) from the floor for the game, while
the Stars shot 45.5 percent (28-61), which included a stellar 50
percent (10-20) from downtown.
Wisconsin Lutheran (7-4, 1-3 NAC) will try for its second NAC
win of the season on Saturday when it travels downtown to face the
MSOE Raiders at 4:15 p.m.
