Box Score Box score

MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College football team put together a strong defensive effort to defeat the Rockford College Regents 18-7 in a Northern Athletics Conference game on Saturday afternoon at Raabe Stadium.

The victory gave ninth-year head coach (21st overall) Dennis Miller his 100th career coaching win.

Wisconsin Lutheran got on the scoreboard first with 2:54 left in the first quarter when sophomore quarterback Josh McCormick (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) snuck across the goal line from one yard out. Junior Ryan Adamovich (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) converted a botched extra point attempt into two points to give WLC an 8-0 lead.

Rockford countered with a touchdown at the 4:58 mark of the second quarter to cut the lead to 8-7. The Warriors answered on their ensuing possession when Jesse Muldrow (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) scored on an eight-yard touchdown run to send WLC into the locker room in front 15-7.

The Warriors took the opening kickoff of the second half and drove down to the Regents 13-yard line. Junior kicker Heikki Luoma (Helsinki Finland) accounted for the only points of the second half when he connected on a 30-yard field goal try with 12:07 remaining in the third quarter for an 18-7 advantage.

WLC, which intercepted Rockford quarterback Mike Sosnowski three times in the fourth quarter, forced a total of six turnovers on the afternoon to help preserve the victory. Sophomore linebacker Nate Rosenberg (Hortonville, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) finished with a game-high 9.5 tackles, while freshman linebacker Tim Wermeling (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) had nine tackles and one interception. Sophomore Colin Makepeace (Cape Canaveral, Fla./Cocoa Beach) picked off two passes.

Offensively, Muldrow finished with 57 yards rushing on 14 carries. McCormick completed seven of 21 pass attempts for 116 yards, while Dominique Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Vincent) caught five passes for 78 yards as the Warriors finished with 235 yards of total offense.

Wisconsin Lutheran (3-3, 2-1 NAC) makes the short drive north to Mequon, Wis., next Saturday to take on NAC foe Concordia University Wisconsin. Kickoff between the Warriors and Falcons is slated for 1 p.m. at Century Stadium.
