MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
volleyball team saw its season come to an end on Wednesday, falling
to the Benedictine University Eagles 3-1 to diminish all hopes of a
Northern Athletics Conference Tournament appearance.
Wisconsin Lutheran was defeated by Benedictine (13-14, 7-5 NAC)
in four sets by scores of 25-15, 25-20, 21-25 and 25-22.
Freshmen Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and
Jenna Neuberger (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) each finished
with eight kills to pace the Warriors offensively. Kailey Buenting
(Gifford, Ill./Saint Thomas More) tallied a double-double with 19
assists and 11 digs, while Leanna Miller (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) added 15 assists.
Junior Megan Sankey (Waupun, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) finished
with a team-high 13 digs for WLC, which ended the match with 10
total team blocks.
Kayla Leyden paced the Eagles, who earned the fourth seed in the
NAC Tournament, with 20 kills and 24 digs.
Seniors Linzi Engstrand (Pine Island, Minn./Pine Island), Jaclyn
Sack (Granger, Ind./Michigan Lutheran) and Sam Sturomski (St.
Francis, Wis./St. Francis) were recognized prior to the match.
Wisconsin Lutheran finishes its 2008 season with a 19-12 overall
record, including a 5-7 mark in the NAC. The 19-win season is the
highest win total under fourth-year head coach Heather Stelzer and
the most since 2004.
