RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College football team picked up its first win in the Northern
Athletics Conference by defeating the Concordia University Chicago
Cougars 30-13 on Saturday afternoon at Concordia Stadium.
After trailing the Cougars 6-3 through two quarters of action,
Wisconsin Lutheran outscored Concordia Chicago 27-7 in the second
half to earn its first-ever NAC victory.
Concordia scored the first touchdown of the game with 1:37 left
in the first half, but failed on the extra-point attempt to go
ahead 6-0. The Warriors quickly answered by driving down the field
and connecting on a Heikki Luoma (Helsinki, Finland) 29-yard field
goal attempt, his first of three field goals on the afternoon.
Fueled by a touchdown reception by Ryan Adamovich (Kaukauna,
Wis./Kaukauna) and a blocked punt recovered in the end zone by
Deonte Trawick (Milwaukee, Wis./The HOPE School), Wisconsin
Lutheran scored on its first three possessions of the third quarter
to build a 20-6 lead.
Sophomore Larry Hairl (Chicago, Ill./Clemente), who rushed for a
career-high 187 yards on 31 carries, added a late 20-yard touchdown
scamper to seal the victory.
WLC finished with 351 yards of total offense in the game, while
running 28 more offensive plays than the Cougars. Sophomore
quarterback Josh McCormick (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran)
completed 14 of 29 passing attempts for 129 yards.
Defensively, the Warriors held CUC to just 194 yards of total
offense and forced four turnovers. Freshman Trey Cochran (Bay City,
Mich./Central) tallied a game-high 9.5 tackles. Darnell Williams
(Campbellsport, Wis./Campbellsport) intercepted two passes, while
Kaylan Gaines (Lake Worth, Fla./American Heritage) and Justin
Cromas (Greenfield, Wis./Greenfield) each added a sack.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-2, 1-0 NAC) hosts Lakeland College next
Saturday on Parents' Day at 1 p.m. at Raabe Stadium.
