AURORA, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
football team turned the ball over a school-record nine times en
route to a 51-6 loss to Northern Athletics Conference leader Aurora
University on Saturday afternoon at Vago Field.
The Spartans intercepted Wisconsin Lutheran sophomore
quarterback John Bodnar (Racine, Wis./Park) four times in the
opening quarter. AU got on the scoreboard at the 1:39 mark when
Nate Peterson scrambled 15 yards to the end zone for a 7-0
lead.
Aurora, which scored 10 points in the second quarter to extend
its lead to 17-0 at the half, started the second half by scoring
touchdowns on four straight possessions to open up a 45-0 lead
after three quarters.
After the Spartans found the end zone for the final time with
8:38 left to play in the final quarter, the Warriors tallied their
lone score of the day when freshman Khenzar Senat (Port St. Lucie,
Fla./Port St. Lucie) connected with Matt Lopata (Cudahy,
Wis./Cudahy) for an 18-yard touchdown pass.
Wisconsin Lutheran finished with 219 net yards of total offense
in the contest, while Aurora finished with 413, despite running 26
fewer offensive plays than the Warriors. The Spartans average
starting field position in the game was the WLC 49 yard line.
Freshman Jesse Muldrow (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
finished with 73 yards rushing on 25 carries, while Lopata caught
three passes for 38 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, sophomore
linebacker Shem Biebert (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Croix
Lutheran) finished with a game-high 7.5 tackles in the game.
Trey Cochran (Bay City, Mich./Central) and Alex Allister (Lake
Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) each intercepted a pass for the
Warriors.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-5, 2-3 NAC) returns to Raabe Stadium next
Saturday to host Benedictine University on Senior Day and Fan
Appreciation Day. Kickoff between the Warriors and Eagles is
scheduled for 1 p.m.
