Cold-shooting Warriors fall to sixth-ranked UW-Stevens Point

MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's basketball team shot just 30 percent in the first half and went on to fall to sixth-ranked UW-Stevens Point 71-59 on Wednesday night in the home opener at the Recreation Complex.

Wisconsin Lutheran, which fell behind 17-3 to the Pointers with 6:50 gone by in the first half, trailed by as much as 16 (31-15) before looking up at a 35-20 deficit at halftime. WLC shot just 30.8 percent (8-26) and turned the ball over 12 times in the opening half.

The Warriors trimmed the Pointers' lead to eight (51-43) at the 9:32 mark of the second half, but UWSP went on an 11-0 run and led by as many as 22 in the half en route to the victory.

WLC finished the game shooting 37.7 percent, compared to a 43.3 percent performance by Stevens Point.

Sam Siemers (Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) posted a team-high 13 points and six rebounds to pace Wisconsin Lutheran, which shot just 23.1 percent (6-26) from three-point range.

Matt Moses poured 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead three players in double figures for UW-Stevens Point (2-0).

Wisconsin Lutheran (0-2) hosts UW-La Crosse on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. in a non-conference game at the Recreation Complex.
