MILWAUKEE - Senior Britany Lindert (Milwaukee,
Wis./School of Languages) poured in 32 points to lead four players
in double figures as the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's
basketball team defeated Finlandia University 91-82 on Friday night
in the season opener at the Recreation Complex.
Lindert, who scored 21 of her 32 points in the second half, shot
12-for-22 from the floor, including 4-for-7 from three-point range,
to finish one point shy of tying her career high.
Kristen Dillon (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) finished with 18
points, while Alaina Miller (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle Moraine
Lutheran) and Whitney Miller (Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine
Lutheran) each added 12. Whitney Miler also hauled down a team-high
11 rebounds.
After nine first-half lead changes, Wisconsin Lutheran, which
shot 34.9 percent in the half, held a slim 39-36 lead over
Finlandia at the break.
The Warriors came out in the second half and built a 53-40 lead
at the 16:34 mark, but the Lions roared back and took their only
lead of the half (76-75) with 3:27 remaining in the game. WLC
finished the game by going on a 16-6 run to come away with the
victory.
The Warriors, who shot 41.5 percent from the floor for the game,
compared to 50.8 percent for the Lions, out-rebounded the visitors
49-38.
Jodi Riutta scored 29 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead
Finlandia (0-2).
Wisconsin Lutheran (1-0) will face Calvin College (2-0), a 65-58
winner over Elmhurst College in the earlier game, on Saturday at 3
p.m. in the championship of the Dunn's Sporting Goods Tip-Off
Tournament at the Recreation Complex.
