MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the young season of the
Northern Athletics Conference by defeating the Alverno College
Inferno 64-50 on Wednesday night at Reiman Gymnasium.
Senior Britany Lindert (Milwaukee, Wis./School of Languages)
went 5-for-5 from three-point range and finished with a game-high
21 points, while freshman Rachel Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) added a career-high 13 points off the bench. Whitney
Miller (Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) tied a season
high with 11 rebounds.
Alverno jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead to open the game, but
Wisconsin Lutheran countered with 13 unanswered points to take an
eight-point lead at the 13:54 mark. The Inferno would not go away
as AC took a 23-21 lead with 4:22 to play in the opening half. The
Warriors finished the half on a 15-2 and went into the locker room
in front 36-25.
The Inferno got as close as 10 points in the second half before
WLC extended its lead to a game-high 21 points (64-43) with 3:52
left.
The Warriors shot 44.1 percent (26-59) from the floor, while
Alverno shot 39.6 percent (19-48). WLC out-rebounded the hosts,
41-27.
Alicia Kontowski made five three-point field goals and scored 19
points to pace Alverno (2-2, 1-1 NAC). Lisa Sorgi finished with 10
points, while Joslyn Binkowski hauled down a team-high nine
rebounds.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-2, 2-0 NAC) travels Rockford College on
Saturday, December 13 for a 2 p.m. NAC showdown with the
Regents.
