MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's basketball team punched a ticket to the 2008 NAC Tournament
with an 86-78 victory over the Milwaukee School of Engineering
Raiders on Saturday at the Recreation Complex.
Marcus Zondag (Randolph, Wis./Randolph) scored a game-high 23
points to lead three players in double figures for Wisconsin
Lutheran. Danny Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and
Sam Siemers (Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) finished
with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
After five lead changes early in the first half, the Warriors
led by as much as 12 (37-25) and closed out the half with an eight
point (39-31) lead. Zondag scored 12 of his 23 points in the half
as the Warriors shot 5-for-10 from three-point range.
Wisconsin Lutheran led the entire second half, building a
game-high 19-point lead with 5:59 remaining. MSOE answered back
with a 17-2 run to cut its deficit to four (80-76) with 2:06 left.
Zondag countered with a three-point play on the Warriors' ensuing
possession for what appeared to be the dagger.
WLC shot 44.1 percent (26-59) for the game, while the Raiders
shot 49.2 percent (31-63). The Warriors made it to the charity
stripe 37 times, successfully connecting on 25 attempts. MSOE shot
10-for-15 from the free-throw line in the game.
Austin Meier finished with 23 points to lead three players in
double digits for MSOE (16-8, 11-6 NAC).
Wisconsin Lutheran (17-6, 11-5 NAC) hosts the Concordia
University Chicago Cougars at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Recreation
Complex.
